David Bester


David Bester took up the violin at age five with Francois Voges and later Madelein van Rooyen. David graduated with a BMus (cum laude) in performance in 2013 from the University of Stellenbosch. During the course of his undergraduate studies, David studied violin with Suzanne Martens, composition with Professor Hans Roosenschoon and organ with Mario Nell. David is currently studying towards a Master’s Degree in Music under the mentorship of Suzanne Martens.

IN 2008, David performed with the CPO as part of the Artscape Youth Music Festival. He also participated in the Artscape National Youth Music competition in 2009 and 2010, and served on the shadow jury for the competition in 2012. In 2013, David performed with the Stellenbosch University Symphony Orcestra in the university’s biennial Concerto Festival. He also played as soloist with the KZNPO in October 2013.

David has won several bursaries for musical achievements. These include the Graham Beck Bursary (2010), SAMRO Bursary (2011 and 2013), Hans Endler Prize (2012, 2013 and 2014) and Mabel Quick Bursary (2014). David also received the Stellenbosch University Merit Bursary from 2011 to 2014.
